Instrument Panel - Electronic: Testing: Tachometer

  1. Disconnect ignition coil connector (VIN 9) or direct ignition system connector (VIN R). Install Instrument Panel Tester (J-33431) to the ignition coil connector (VIN 9) or system connector (VIN R). Install Harness Connector (J-33431-4) or (J-33431-10) between instrument panel tester and ignition coil or system connector.
  2. Connect ground lead of tester. Turn ignition switch to the "RUN" position. With tester on, set speed signal to 54 MPH. If tachometer reads 1350 RPM (VIN 9) or 1800 RPM (VIN R), check coil connector (VIN 9) or system connector (VIN R). If tachometer does not read correctly, check White wire for an open circuit. If okay, replace tachometer with a new unit.
