Fuel Gauge
- If fuel gauge indicates empty when there is fuel in the tank, proceed to step 2). If fuel gauge is inaccurate, proceed to step 4). If fuel gauge indicates "FULL" or beyond at all times, proceed to step 5).
- Disconnect 3-pin connector in the engine compartment (center of rear bulkhead). Turn the ignition switch to "RUN" position. Allow 60 seconds for movement of fuel gauge.
- If fuel gauge indicates full, repair or replace fuel gauge sending unit. If gauge indicates empty, check or repair Pink wire for short to ground. Inspect printed circuit for flaws and loose connections. If okay, replace fuel gauge.
- Connect Tester (J-33431) to Pink wire and ground, of the 3-pin connector at the rear of bulkhead in engine compartment. Set resistance value to "0" ohms and then to "90" ohms. Fuel gauge should read "E" and then "F". Allow 60 seconds for movement.
- If gauge responds correctly, check the Black wire for open. If okay, replace fuel gauge sending unit. If gauge does not respond correctly, check Pink wire for high resistance. Also inspect printed circuit for proper mating of connectors. If both are okay, replace fuel gauge.
- Turn ignition switch to "RUN" position and disconnect fuel tank sending unit connector (harness side). Install a fused jumper wire between Pink wire and ground. Gauge should read empty. If not, check or repair Pink wire for open circuit. Check printed circuit for flaws or loose connections. If okay, replace fuel gauge.
- With ignition switch in "RUN" position and fuel tank unit connector (harness side) disconnected, install a fused jumper wire between Pink and Black wires. Gauge should read empty. If not, check or repair Black wire for an open circuit. If both steps 6) and 7) respond correctly, repair or replace fuel gauge sending unit and wiring.
