Caliper Assembly

1. Install bleeder valve. Torque valve to 80---140 inch lbs.
2. Install protector onto bleeder valve.
3. Install mounting bracket, if removed. Torque bracket bolt to 24---38 ft. lbs.
4. Using clean brake fluid, lubricate caliper housing bore seals.
5. Install piston seal into caliper bore groove.
6. Ensure caliper seal is not twisted in groove.
7. Install boot onto piston with inside lip of boot in piston groove and boot fold toward end of piston.
8. Install thrust washer onto actuator screw with bearing surface toward caliper housing.
9. Lubricate shaft seal with clean brake fluid, then install seal onto actuator screw.
10. Lubricate actuator screw, then install screw into piston.
11. Install balance spring into piston.
12. Lubricate piston with clean brake fluid, then install piston into caliper bore. Use tool No. J-23072 or equivalent to push piston completely down into bore.
13. Install anti-friction washer and lever seal onto actuator screw. ensure sealing bead on lever is against housing. Install lever onto actuator screw. Rotate lever away from stop slightly and hold while install nut. Torque nut to 30---40 ft. lbs. After nut is torqued, rotate lever back to the stop.
14. Install boot into caliper housing counterbore. Using tool No. J-28678, seat boot into counterbore.
15. Install dampening spring into groove end of piston. It may be necessary to move parking brake lever off the stop to extend piston and make spring groove accessible.
