MACPHERSON Strut & Coil Spring: Reassembly

  1. With strut compressor clamped in vise, put strut in compressor bottom adapter. Rotate strut until lower flange is opposite compressor screw. Seat spring on lower seat with smallest coil at lowest position and coil end about .79" (20 mm) from seat ridge.
  2. Install dust shield, bumper, insulator, washer and upper seat. Position seat long stud about 180° from strut mounting flange. See Figure . Place top adapter over spring seat and turn compressor screw until compressor top support contacts top adapters.
  3. Install Strut Alignment Rod (J-26584-27 ) and thread hand tight onto strut damper shaft. Compress spring enough to install top nut. Remove alignment rod and install strut upper mount, washer and nut. Relieve compressor tension and remove strut from compressor.
