Piston & Rod Assembly: Removal

  1. With cylinder head and oil pan removed, inspect cylinder bores for ridges and deposits. Move piston to be removed to bottom of bore and cover with cloth to catch cuttings.
  2. Remove ridge at to of cylinder bores. Rotate crankshaft and inspect connecting rods and rod caps for cylinder identification. Index mark them if necessary.
  3. Remove rod cap and place sleeve or hose over rod bolts. Push each piston and rod assembly out top of cylinder bore. Remove bearing inserts from rod and cap and inspect for size, wear and damage. Install rod caps on mating rods.
