Removal & Installation: Camshaft: Inspection

  1. Check camshaft journals for out-of-round condition. If journals exceed .0009" (.022 mm) out-of-round, replace camshaft. Check camshaft end play. Replace thrust plate if clearance is excessive.
  2. Check camshaft for alignment. Use "V" block and dial indicator. If dial gauge reads more than .0015" (.040 mm), replace camshaft.
  3. Check camshaft lobe lift. Attach dial gauge with Ball and Socket Attachment (J-8520) to camshaft carrier or "V" block. Measure lobe lift. If not to specification, replace camshaft.
