Camshaft Timing Chain & Sprockets: Installation
- If crankshaft sprocket was removed, install using Sprocket Installer (J-5590). Lubricate thrust surface of camshaft with Molykote.
- Position chain over camshaft and crankshaft sprockets, making sure 2 marks on camshaft sprocket align with mark on crankshaft sprocket. Position camshaft sprocket on camshaft.
- Ensure hole in camshaft sprocket aligns with dowel pin on camshaft. Draw camshaft sprocket onto camshaft using camshaft retaining bolts and tighten. Lubricate timing chain with oil.CAUTION: Timing chain tensioner is spring-loaded and requires caution when reinstalling.
- Using Timing Chain Tensioner (J-33875), position tangs of tool under sliding block and pull tool to compress spring. While compressing spring, insert fabricated holding tool (cotter pin or nail) into hole in tensioner to retain spring.
- With spring compressed and held in place, remove Tensioner (J-33875). Install chain tensioner. Remove holding tool (cotter pin or nail). Install crankcase front cover. Reverse removal procedure to complete installation.
