Engine Identification

NOTE: For engine repair procedures not covered in this article, see ENGINE OVERHAUL PROCEDURES - GENERAL INFORMATION article in the GENERAL INFORMATION section.

Engine may be identified from the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) stamped on metal tab located on top of instrument panel at lower left of windshield. VIN number code also appears on pad at right front of cylinder block below cylinder head.

The VIN number contains 17 characters. The 8th character identifies engine.
