Timing Belt: Installation
- Install timing belt on sprockets. See REMOVAL section above for sprocket timing information. Install crankshaft pulley and check for alignment of timing marks. Rotate water pump clockwise until slack is removed from timing belt. Hand tighten water pump bolts.
- Using belt tension gauge (J-26486 or equivalent), check belt tension between water pump and camshaft sprocket. New belt tension should be 40 lbs./ft. (180 N). Used belt tension should be 27-36 lbs./ft. (120-160 N).
- If belt tension is inaccurate, loosen water pump bolts and rotate pump until correct tension is obtained. Tighten water pump bolts. Reverse removal procedures to complete installation.
