Piston & Rod Assembly: Removal

  1. Remove cylinder head and oil pan. On cylinder requiring service, turn crankshaft until piston is at bottom of stroke. Place cloth over top of piston. Using a ridge reamer, remove ridge or deposits on upper end of cylinder bore.
  2. Remove connecting rod caps and bearings. If bearings are to be reused, mark so that they can be reinstalled in original position.
  3. To protect crankshaft, place sleeve or hose over rod bolts. Remove piston and rod from top of cylinder. Replace cap onto rod and mark rod for reinstallation in original location.
