Description & Operation

Except for anti-lock equipped vehicles, standard equipment consists of double pin floating caliper front disc brakes, rear automatic adjusting drum brakes, combination valve, master cylinder and booster. The front brake caliper is mounted onto the steering knuckle. Rear double pin floating caliper disc brakes are available. Front brake pads have semi-metallic linings. The brake system is diagonally split, with left front and right rear on one hydraulic system, right front and left rear on another.

On models with rear disc brakes, parking brake consists of a small cable operated duo-servo drum brake assembly mounted to the disc brake caliper adapter. The hat (center) section of the disc-to-flange mounting portion of the disc provides the brake drum surface for the parking brake. On all other applications, parking brake consists of hand lever/cable application of rear service brakes.

Non-ABS systems have a standard, 4-outlet, compensating port master cylinder. ABS systems have a 2-outlet center valve design. Tandem master cylinder is anodized, lightweight aluminum. Bore should not be honed. Removable fluid reservoir is reinforced nylon.
