Propeller Shaft (Drive Shaft): Removal
- Disconnect battery negative cable. Disconnect transaxle cooler lines at transmission and plug lines. See Figure . Disconnect and remove transaxle cooler and bracket. Remove gearshift cable from manual valve lever. See Figure . Remove electrical connectors at transaxle. See Figure and Figure .
- Remove transaxle front mounting bolts. Remove exhaust hanger brackets at engine rear mount. See Figure
. Support transaxle.Remove transaxle rear mount. See Figure
. Remove exhaust system and hangers. Mark front and rear propeller shaft flanges at drive couplers for installation reference. See Figure

.CAUTION: Disconnect couplers from flanges only. DO NOT disconnect couplers at propeller shaft.NOTE: The propeller shaft and rubber couplers are serviced as an assembly. DO NOT try to repair any component of propeller shaft.
- Remove propeller shaft front flange bolts at front drive coupler. See Figure
. Remove propeller shaft rear flange bolts at rear drive coupler. See Figure
. Support propeller shaft with floor stand. Slide transaxle rearward.CAUTION: DO NOT try to remove the propeller shaft unless it has cleared the drive flange pilots completely. DO NOT angle shaft downward. Damage to inner bushings will result.
- Lower front of propeller shaft out of propeller shaft flange pilot. See Figure . Remove propeller shaft from vehicle.
