Remote Radio Switches
WARNING:
Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment and possible personal injury.
- Disconnect and isolate battery negative cable. Wait two minutes for airbag system capacitor to discharge before further service. Remove remote radio switch(es) from steering wheel. Use an ohmmeter to check switch resistance as shown in REMOTE RADIO SWITCH TEST
. See Fig 1

Switch Position Resistance Volume Up 7320 OHMS Volume Down 1210 OHMS Seek Up 4530 OHMS Seek Down 2050 OHMS Pre-Set Station Advance 10 OHMS NOTE: The right remote radio switch back is White in color. The left back is Black in color. The right/left radio switch orientation is with steering wheel installed, and driver in drivers seat. - If switch resistance check is OK, go to next step. If not OK, replace faulty switch.
- Check for continuity between ground circuit cavity of switch wire harness connector and a ground. There should be continuity. If OK, go to next step. If not OK, repair open circuit as required.
- Unplug 24-way White wire harness connector from Body Control Module (BCM). Check for continuity between radio control circuit cavity of remote radio switch wire harness connector and a good ground. There should be no continuity. If OK, go to next. If not OK, repair short circuit as required.
- Check for continuity between radio control circuit cavities of remote radio switch wire harness connector and BCM wire harness connector. There should be continuity. If OK, see proper Diagnostic Procedures manual to test BCM and CCD data bus. If not OK, repair open circuit as required.
