Shock Absorber: Installation

  1. Install shock absorber/coil spring assembly on vehicle.
  2. CAUTION: DO NOT tighten bolt at this time. When shock absorbers are installed on this vehicle, vehicle must be at curb height before either shock absorber mounting bolt is tightened and torqued to specifications. Tightening these bolts with suspension at any other position will effect curb height of vehicle and will lead to premature failure of bushings.
  3. Install top of shock absorber into frame bracket. See Fig 3 . Install shock absorber to frame bracket bolt. DO NOT tighten bolt at this time.
  4. Install shock absorber clevis on mounting bracket on lower control arm. Install shock absorber to bracket bolt. See Fig 2 . DO NOT tighten bolt at this time.
  5. Install tire and wheel assembly.
  6. Tighten wheel mounting stub nuts in proper sequence until all nuts are torqued to half specification. Then repeat tightening sequence to full specified torque. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  7. Install center cap on wheel.
  8. Lower vehicle to ground.
  9. Place vehicle on a drive-on type hoist or an alignment rack.
  10. NOTE: When jouncing vehicle, vehicle must be released at bottom of jounce cycle. This will ensure vehicle's suspension will raise vehicle to current curb height at top of jounce cycle.
  11. Jounce front and rear of vehicle several times to allow vehicle to settle at its correct curb height.
  12. Torque shock absorber upper mounting bolt and lower mounting bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
