Wheel Mounting Stud: Removal
- Raise vehicle on jackstands or centered on a frame contact type hoist.NOTE: When removing center cap from wheel do not use a sharp or hard Tool . Use of such a Tool can mare finish on wheel and damage center cap.
- Remove center cap from wheel. Center cap is removed by inserting a trim stick into notch on center cap and prying it off wheel. Remove front tire and wheel assembly. Remove 2 bolts attaching brake caliper to caliper adapter. Remove disc brake caliper from caliper adapter. Caliper is removed by first rotating free end of caliper away from caliper adapter.
- With free end of caliper rotated away from adapter, lift caliper off machined lower abutment on adapter.NOTE: The upper control arm on this vehicle has a clearcoat finish applied to it. When hanging disc brake caliper from control arm do not use wire or any similar material that would damage clearcoat finish. A plastic tie strap as shown in. See Figure . is a suitable method of supporting disc brake caliper.
- Support disc brake caliper firmly by hanging it from upper control arm using a tie strap. See Figure . DO NOT let flex hose support weight of brake caliper, damage to flex hose can occur. Remove brake rotor from hub/bearing. Install a lug nut on wheel stud to be removed from hub/bearing. Install lug nut so threads on stud are even with end of lug nut.
- Install Remover (Special Tool C-4150 A), on hub/bearing flange and against wheel stud and lug nut. Tighten down on bolt of special Tool . This will push wheel stud out of hub flange.
