Fluid Pressure Hose (1997): Installation
CAUTION:
When installing routing clips they must be installed at flat spots formed into tubing on power steering pressure and return hose.
NOTE:
DO NOT use automatic transmission fluid in power steering system. Only use Mopar(R) Power Steering Fluid or equivalent.
- Using a lint free towel, wipe clean open power steering hose ends, power steering pump discharge fitting and steering gear port. Install new O-ring seals on ends of power steering hose. Lubricate NEW O-ring seals using fresh clean power steering fluid.
- From underside of vehicle, correctly route power steering fluid pressure hose up to power steering pump. Correctly route power steering pressure hose to pressure fitting on steering gear. Install power steering pressure hose on steering gear. Install power steering pressure hose tube nut only hand tight.
- Install 2 new routing clips used to hold power steering fluid pressure and return hose together. Install third routing clip used to hold power steering fluid pressure and return hose together. See Fig 1.
- Ensure power steering hoses DO NOT contact any areas that could cause abrasion to hose, then tighten tube nut to 29 N.m (252 INCH lbs.). See Figure. Lower vehicle.
- Install power steering pressure hose in discharge fitting on power steering pump. See Fig 3. Ensure end of tube and O-ring seal is squarely seated in discharge fitting. Tighten power steering pressure hose tube nut to 29 N.m (252 INCH lbs.)
- Install side panel. See Fig 2. Install and securely tighten 3 bolts attaching side panel to vehicle.
- Fill power steering pump reservoir to correct fluid level. Perform Power Steering Pump Initial Operation procedure. See Service Procedures in ON-VEHICLE SERVICE . Check for leaks at all hose connections.
