Outer Tie Rod End: Installation
CAUTION:
To ensure stud of tie rod end is adequately pulled into steering knuckle washer must be installed between nut and steering knuckle. See Figure.
NOTE:
Before installing outer tie rod end on inner tie rod, ensure jam nut is on inner tie rod. See Fig 1.
- Install outer tie rod on inner tie rod. DO NOT tighten inner to outer tie rod jam nut. See Fig 1. Install outer tie rod on steering knuckle.
- Install washer and nut attaching tie rod ends to steering knuckles. See Figure. Tie rod end attaching nut is tightened and torqued using a Crows Foot and a 11/32" socket. See Figure. Tighten tie rod end castle nuts to 51 N.m (38 ft. lbs.).
- Install front fender on steering knuckle. Install 3 nuts mounting fender bracket to steering knuckle. See Figure. Tighten nuts to 40 N.m (30 ft. lbs.). Install wheel and tire.
- Tighten wheel mounting stud nuts in proper sequence until all nuts are torqued to half specification. Then repeat tightening sequence to full specified torque of 122 N.m (90 ft. lbs.). Install center cap on wheel. Lower vehicle. Adjust front wheel toe on vehicle.
