Removal & Installation: Crankshaft: Removal

  1. Remove engine from vehicle. Drain engine oil. Remove oil pan. Remove oil pick-up tube. Remove idler pulley for accessory drive belt. Remove lower timing belt cover. Remove main timing belt cover. Remove left side timing belt cover.
  2. Remove crankshaft damper. Remove timing belt tensioner and timing belt. Remove crankshaft sprocket. Tap dowel pin out of crankshaft. Remove oil pump assembly. Remove rear crankshaft oil seal retainer. Remove connecting rod bearing caps. Connecting rod bearing caps are not interchangeable and should be marked at removal to insure correct assembly.
  3. Remove main bearing caps. Main bearing caps are not interchangeable and should be marked at removal to insure correct assembly. See Fig 1. Remove crankshaft.
NOTE: Before installing crankshaft, see CRANKSHAFT MAIN BEARINGS , CONNECTING ROD BEARINGS  and MAIN BEARINGS  .
