Cleaning & Inspection: Camshaft

  1. Inspect camshaft bearing journals for damage and binding. See Fig 1. If journals are binding, check cylinder head for damage. Also check cylinder head oil holes for clogging.
  2. Check cam surface for abnormal wear and damage and replace if defective. Measure actual wear and replace if out of limit, standard value is .0254 mm (.001"), wear limit is .254 mm (.010").
