Description & Operation: Thermostat

The engine cooling thermostat is a wax pellet driven, reverse poppet choke type. This design provides fastest warm up possible by preventing leakage and to guarantee a minimum engine operating temperature of 195°F (90°C). The thermostat automatically reaches wide open at a temperature of approximately 215°F (102°C). This provides un-restricted flow to radiator as temperature of coolant rises in hot weather. Coolant temperatures above 215°F (102°C) are controlled by radiator, fan, and ambient air temperature, not thermostat.
