Rear Caliper: Removal
During service procedures, grease and other foreign material must be kept off disc brake caliper, rotor and external surfaces of hub. Handling of caliper and rotor must be done in such a way as to avoid damage to rotor and scratching or nicking of friction material on brake shoes.
During removal and installation of a wheel and tire, use care not to strike disc brake caliper.
- Using a brake pedal holding tool such as one shown, depress brake pedal past its first inch of travel, and secure it in this position. See Figure . This will isolate master cylinder from brake hydraulic system, not allowing fluid to drain from reservoir. Raise vehicle on jackstands or centered on a hoist. Remove center cap from wheel.
- Center cap is removed by inserting a trim stick into notch on center cap and prying it off wheel. See Figure . Remove wheels and tires. Remove banjo bolt securing brake hose to brake caliper. Inspect brass washers for damage and replace as necessary. Remove 2 bolts mounting disc brake caliper to caliper adapter. See Fig 1 .
- Remove disc brake caliper from caliper adapter. Caliper is removed by first rotating free end of caliper away from caliper adapter. See Fig 2 . Then with free end of caliper rotated away from adapter, lift caliper off machined abutment on adapter.
