Rear Brake Pads: Removal
- Raise vehicle on jackstands or centered on a hoist. Remove center cap from wheel. Center cap is removed by inserting a trim stick into notch on center cap and prying it off wheel. See Figure
. Remove wheels and tires from vehicle. Remove 2 bolts mounting rear brake caliper to caliper adapter. See Figure
.
- Remove disc brake caliper from caliper adapter. Caliper is removed by first rotating free end of caliper away from caliper adapter. See Figure
. Then with free end of caliper rotated away from adapter, lift caliper off machined abutment on adapter.
- Support disc brake caliper by hanging it from shock absorber bracket on frame using wire. See Fig 1
. DO NOT let flex hose support weight of brake caliper, damage to flex hose can occur.
- Remove outboard brake shoe from caliper using following procedure. Pry each retaining clip on brake shoe over raised area on caliper. See Fig 2
. Then slide brake shoe off caliper. Pull inboard brake shoe away from caliper piston until retaining clip is out of piston cavity. See Fig 3
