Parking Brake Cables: Installation
- Spray sealing grommet with Mopar, Silicone Spray Lube or an equivalent. This will make installation of sealing grommet into body hole easier. Install park brake cable into body hole making sure sealing grommet is installed as far as possible to insure proper seal. Install park brake cable into caliper adapter. Be sure locking tabs on cable retainer are expanded to ensure cable is held securely in adapter. Install park brake cable on park brake shoe actuator located at rear of caliper adapter. See Figure .
- Install park brake cable routing clip on stud in body. See Fig 4
. Install and securely tighten routing clip attaching nut. Install rear wheel and tire assembly on vehicle. Tighten all wheel stud nuts in cries-cross pattern to one-half specified torque. Then repeat pattern, fully tightening stud nuts to 135 N.m (100 ft. lbs.). Install center cap on wheel. Lower vehicle.NOTE: When pulling park brake cable and sealing grommet into body hole pull on sealing grommet not park brake cable.
- From passenger compartment of vehicle, pull sealing grommet and park brake cable as far as possible into body hole. See Fig 5 . This is required to ensure an air and water tight seal is created between sealing grommet and body hole. When replacing park brake cables for proper routing of right and left park brake cables. See Fig 6 .
- Route park brake cable under carpeting to park brake cable retaining bracket on floor pan. Install park brake cable into retaining bracket . Be sure tabs on park brake cable retainer, have expanded out to hold park brake cable in retaining bracket.
- Install routing clip on park brake cable and on stud in floor pan. See Fig 1 . Install and securely tighten nut attaching routing clip to floor pan stud. Install rear park brake cables into equalizer on park brake lever cable. See Figure . Unfold carpeting and correctly position on body panel. Place seat and seat back in original position. Firmly grasp park brake lever locking pin (3/16" drill bit) and quickly remove it from park brake lever mechanism. See Figure . This will allow park brake lever mechanism to correctly adjust park brake cables.
- Cycle park brake lever ounce to position park brake cables. Then return park brake lever to its released position. Check rear wheels of vehicle, they should rotate freely without dragging. Lower vehicle. Raise park brake lever to its fully engaged position. This is necessary to allow installation of center console.
- Install center console. Lower park brake lever to released position. Install 4 screws, mounting console, storage tray and lid. See Figure . Install screw mounting front of center console to console bracket. Connect shift bezel wiring harness to vehicle wiring harness. See Figure . Install shift bezel on center console. Shift bezel is installed by firmly pressing it down on center console until 4 retaining clips are holding it to center console. Install shift knob on shifter. Install and securely tighten set screw holding shift knob to shifter. Access to set screw is from front side of shift knob. See Figure .
