Master Cylinder: Installation
CAUTION:
When installing master cylinder on a vehicle, a NEW vacuum seal MUST be installed on master cylinder.
- Install a NEW vacuum seal on master cylinder. Make sure seal sits squarely in groove on master cylinder. See Fig 1
.NOTE: It is not necessary to bleed entire hydraulic system after replacing master cylinder, providing that master cylinder has been filled and bled prior to installation, and vehicle's brake lines have not been open to air for an extended period of time.
- Bleed master cylinder assembly prior to mounting it on power brake booster. Position master cylinder on studs of vacuum booster. Be sure push rod on vacuum booster is correctly aligned with piston of master cylinder.
- Push master cylinder up against front of vacuum booster. Install master cylinder to vacuum booster mounting nuts and tighten to 28 N.m (250 INCH lbs.). See Figure . Connect brake tubes to master cylinder primary and secondary ports. See Figure . Tighten fittings to 17 N.m (145 INCH lbs.).
