Front Disc Brake Rotor: Removal

  1. Raise vehicle on jackstands or centered on a hoist. Remove center cap from wheel. Center cap is removed by inserting a trim stick into notch on center cap and prying it off wheel. See Figure .
    NOTE: When removing center cap from wheel do not use a sharp or hard tool. Use of such a tool can mare finish on wheel and damage center cap.
  2. Remove wheels and tires. Remove 2 bolts attaching disc brake caliper to caliper adapter. See Figure . Remove disc brake caliper from caliper adapter by first rotating free end of caliper away from caliper adapter. Then slide opposite end of caliper out from under machined abutment on caliper adapter. See Figure .
    NOTE: The upper control arm on this vehicle has a clearcoat finish applied to it. When hanging disc brake caliper from control arm do not use wire or any similar material that would damage clearcoat finish. A plastic tie strap is a suitable method of supporting disc brake caliper. See Figure .
  3. Support disc brake caliper firmly by hanging it from upper control arm using a plastic tie strap. This is required to prevent weight of caliper from being supported by brake flex hose. Supporting weight of caliper by flex hose can damage flex hose, See Figure . Remove rotor from hub.
