Brake Rotor

The purpose of brake rotor is to slow down and stop rear wheels of vehicle. This is accomplished by applying brake shoes against braking surfaces of rotor. The rotor is made of aluminum silica carbide alloy and is vented to help cool it during brake applications. The brake rotor has two slits cut into braking surface. See Figure . They are there to isolate rear brake noise.

The brake rotor on this vehicle also serves as drum for parking brakes. The parking brake shoes expand out against a braking surface on inside area of rotor.
