Master Cylinder

The master cylinder is a component of vehicle's brake system that develops hydraulic pressure required apply brakes and stop vehicle. See Figure . The master cylinder has two pistons with rubber lip seals located in bore of master cylinder that are used to pressurizer brake fluid in brakes hydraulic system. The brake fluid is pressurized by force applied to brake pedal by drivers foot. The master cylinder has a semi-clear polypropolyne reservoir and an anodized aluminum body. The master cylinder body and pistons are not serviceable or replaceable components of master cylinder. The only replaceable component of master cylinder is fluid reservoir. See Figure .

The reservoir is indexed using roll pin mounting tabs to prevent installation in wrong direction. The cap diaphragms are slit to allow atmospheric pressure to equalize on both sides of diaphragm. The primary and secondary outlet tubes from master cylinder, are connected to brake system combination valve. The combination valve is mounted to frame rail below the master cylinder. The front port of combination valve connects to master cylinder primary outlet tube and supplies right and left front brakes. The rear of combination valve connects to master cylinder secondary outlet tube and supplies both rear brakes.
