BrakeLining Wear
To check amount of lining wear, remove wheels and tires. If a visual inspection does not adequately determine condition of lining (friction material) on rear brake shoes, a physical inspection will be necessary. This will require that brake shoes be removed from rear caliper.
The combined thickness of brake shoe backing plate and friction material is to be measured at thinnest point of combined thickness. The combined minimum thickness of rear brake shoe backing plate and friction material is 7.0 mm (9/32"). See Figure . When combined thickness of brake shoe backing plate and friction material reaches minimum thickness specified, rear brake shoes must be replaced.
Replace both brake shoes (inboard and outboard) on both wheels whenever brake shoes on either side of vehicle are replaced. If brake shoes do not require replacement, install original brake shoes back in caliper. Make sure each brake shoe is returned to its original position on wheel of vehicle that it was removed from.
