Brake Lining Wear
If a visual inspection does not adequately determine condition of lining (friction material) on front brake pads, a physical inspection will be necessary. This will require that brake shoes be removed from front caliper. The combined thickness of brake shoe backing plate and friction material is to be measured at thinnest point of combined thickness. The combined minimum thickness of front brake shoe backing plate and friction material is 7.95 mm (.31"). See Figure . When combined thickness of brake shoe backing plate and friction material reaches minimum thickness specified, front brake shoes must be replaced.
When front brake shoes are replaced, only brake shoes meeting Original Equipment Manufacturer material formulation should be used. This is required to maintain original braking performance of this vehicle. Replace both brake shoes (inboard and outboard) on both front wheels of vehicle whenever brake shoes on either side of vehicle require replacement. If brake shoes do not require replacement, install original brake shoes back on vehicle. Make sure each brake shoe is returned to its original position, on same wheel of vehicle it was removed from.
