Parking Brake

Parking brake has an automatic self-adjuster built into park brake lever mechanism. When park brake lever is in its released (full down) position, a clock spring automatically adjusts park brake cable system. The park brake cable system is adjusted (tensioned) just enough to remove all slack from park brake cables. The automatic adjuster system will not over adjust cables causing rear brake drag. When park brake lever is moved upward to apply park brakes, self adjuster is by-passed and lever operates normally to engage parking brakes.

Due to auto adjust feature of parking brake lever, adjustment of parking brake system on this vehicle relies on proper drum-in-hat park brake shoe adjustment. When a service procedure needs to be performed on park brake pedal assembly or park brake cables, automatic self adjuster can be manually locked out.
