ISO Tubing Flares

CAUTION: All ISO style tubing flares are of metric dimensions. See Fig 1 and Fig 2 . When performing any service procedures on vehicles using ISO style tubing flares, metric size tubing of 4.75 mm MUST be used with metric ISO tube flaring equipment.

To create a metric ISO style tubing flare, use Snap-on Flaring Tool (TFM 428), or equivalent and proceed with steps listed below. See Fig 3 . Ensure to place tubing nut on tube before flaring tubing.

  1. Carefully prepare end of tubing to be flared. Be sure end of tubing to be flared is square and all burrs on inside of tubing are removed. See Figure . This preparation is essential to obtain correct form of a (metric) ISO tubing flare.
  2. Open jaws of Flaring Tool. Align mating size jaws of flaring tool around size of tubing to be flared. Close jaws of Flaring Tool around tubing to keep it from sliding out of flaring tool, but do not lock tubing in place. See Fig 3 . Position tubing in jaws of Flaring Tool so that it is flush with top surface of flaring tool bar assembly.
  3. Install correct size adaptor for brake tubing being flared, on feed screw of yoke assembly. Center yoke and adapter over end of tubing. Apply lubricant to adapter area that contacts brake tubing. Making sure adapter pilot is fully inserted in end of brake tubing. Screw in feed screw of yoke assembly until adaptor has seated squarely on surface of bar assembly. This process has created metric ISO tubing flare.
