Brake System & Components
The hydraulically actuated 4-wheel disc brake system consists of components listed below. The components listed have been specifically developed for their use on this vehicle. The unique development of these components is to ensure vehicle meets required braking performance standard established for this vehicle.
- The front disc brakes used on this vehicle are a 60mm single piston, double pin, floating caliper design.
- The rear disc brakes used on this vehicle are a 54mm single piston, double pin, floating caliper design.
- Organic non-asbestos front and rear brake lining material.
- Frame mounted proportioning valve with a brake pressure warning switch.
- Combined master cylinder and brake fluid reservoir.
- Vacuum actuated power brake booster.
The hydraulic brake system is vertically split. See Fig 1 . On a vertically split hydraulic system, pressure in hydraulic system is split front to rear, with both front brakes on one hydraulic system and both rear brakes on other. A conventional front wheel drive vehicle has a hydraulic system which is diagonally split, having left front and right rear brake on one hydraulic system and right front and left rear brake on other. The master cylinder used on this vehicle is made of an anodized, lightweight aluminum, with a piston bore size of 25.4 mm (1.0"). The power assist for brake system on this vehicle is provided by a vacuum actuated, tandem diaphragm vacuum booster.
