Horns Sound Continuously

WARNING: Disconnect the negative cable from the battery before servicing components involving the airbag system. Accidental deployment of airbag and personal injury can result.

The horn circuit consists of a horn switch, clockspring, horn relay, horns and Body Control Module, See Figure . The horn switch is a membrane switch located in airbag cover. The horns are located forward of battery on lower frame, See Figure . The horn relay plugs into Power Distribution Center.

CAUTION: Continuous sounding of horns may cause relay and horn to fail. The horn switch (membrane) sometimes can be cause without switch being depressed.
  1. Remove horn relay from PDC. Using a DVOM, test continuity from PDC terminal cavity No. 85 of horn relay to ground. If continuity to ground exists, go to next step. If NO continuity exists, replace horn relay.
  2. Remove Driver's Airbag Module from steering wheel and disconnect horn connector. Install horn relay in PDC. If horn does not sound, replace Driver's Air bag Module. If horn sounds, repair grounded X3 circuit from PDC to clockspring in steering in steering column.
