Description & Operation

Except for anti-lock brake vehicles, standard equipment consists of pin slider caliper front disc brakes, rear automatic adjusting drum brakes, a combination valve, master cylinder and a booster. Rear disc brakes are available on some models. Front brake shoes have semi-metallic linings. Brake system is diagonally split, with left front and right rear on one hydraulic system, and right front and left rear on the other. See Fig 1 .
Front brakes will be one of two caliper types: a double-pin Kelsey-Hayes caliper (family caliper) with a bolt-on adapter, or a double-pin Kelsey-Hayes caliper mounted to rails on the steering knuckle. Master cylinder is anodized, lightweight aluminum with a bore size of 7/8" (21 mm or 24 mm). See Figure .
CAUTION:
Caliper pistons, boots and seals are not interchangeable. Using wrong components can result in complete brake system failure.
