Description & Operation
Except for anti-lock equipped vehicles, standard equipment consists of pin slider caliper front disc brakes, rear automatic adjusting drum brakes, combination valve, master cylinder and booster. Rear disc brakes are available on some models. Front brake pads have semi-metallic linings. Brake system is diagonally split, with left front and right rear on one hydraulic system, right front and left rear on other. See Fig 1.
Front brakes will be one of two caliper types: bolt-on adapter mounted or steering knuckle mounted. Tandem master cylinder is anodized, lightweight aluminum. Bore should not be honed. Removable fluid reservoir is glass reinforced nylon. See Figure.
CAUTION:
Caliper pistons, boots and seals are not interchangeable. Using wrong components can result in brake system failure.
