Silent Shafts & Bearings: Removal

  1. Remove front cover and oil pump. See OIL PUMP & FRONT COVER  under ENGINE OILING in this article. Remove silent shafts from cylinder block. See Figure. Inspect silent shaft bearings for damage and proper oil clearance.
  2. If bearings require replacement, use Bearing Remover (MD998371) for front bearing. Use Bearing Remover (MD998372) for right rear bearing, and Bearing Remover (MD998372) and Guide Plate (MD998374) for left rear bearing removal. See Fig 1.
NOTE: Remove right front bearing first to allow tool access to rear bearing.
