Removal & Installation: Engine: Removal
- Loosen fuel tank cap to release pressure. Disconnect injector wiring harness from engine wiring harness. Connect jumper wire from terminal No. 1 of injector harness to ground. See Fig 1.
- Connect jumper wire to terminal No. 2 of injector harness. Touch jumper wire to positive battery terminal for no more than 5 seconds to release fuel pressure. Remove jumper wires and reconnect wiring harness.
- Disconnect battery cables. Mark hinge position on hood for reinstallation. Remove hood. Drain cooling system. Remove radiator and heater hoses. On A/T models, remove oil cooler lines from radiator. On all models, remove radiator and shroud assembly.
- Remove air cleaner with hoses attached. Remove A/C compressor and power steering pump with hoses attached and position aside (if equipped). Remove oil filter. Disconnect necessary electrical wiring, vacuum lines, fuel lines, and control cables.
- Remove alternator mounting bolts and position alternator aside. On M/T models, disconnect clutch cable. Remove transaxle housing inspection cover.
- On A/T models, remove converter housing inspection cover. Mark converter-to-flex plate position. Remove converter-to-flex plate bolts. Attach "C" clamp to bottom of transaxle housing to prevent converter movement.
- On all models, disconnect exhaust pipe at manifold. Disconnect starter motor and position aside. Support transaxle.
- Install engine hoist. Remove right side inner fender splash shield. Remove ground strap. Remove right engine mount through bolt. Remove bolts attaching engine to transaxle.CAUTION: If engine mounts are to be removed from frame rail, engine mount position on frame rail must be marked for reassembly reference.
- Remove front engine mount bolt and nut. Remove anti-roll strut/damper on M/T models. On all models, remove insulator bracket-to-transaxle bolt or insulator through bolt (from inside wheelwell). Lift engine and remove from vehicle.
