Removal & Installation: Camshaft: Installation

  1. Install camshaft on cylinder head. Install rocker arms in original location. Arrows on bearing caps No. 1 through 4 should point toward timing belt. Apply Loctite anaerobic sealer to bearing caps No. 1 and 5 at cap-to-cylinder head surfaces.
  2. Install No. 1 bearing cap at timing belt end and No. 5 bearing cap at rear of cylinder head. Ensure arrows on bearing caps No. 1 through 4 point toward timing belt. Install bearing cap bolts and tighten bolts alternately (working from middle outward) to specification.
  3. Check camshaft end play. If end play exceeds specification, camshaft and/or cylinder head should be replaced. See ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS tables at end of article.
  4. Coat camshaft oil seal lips with oil. Using Intermediate Shaft & Camshaft Seal Installer (C-4680), install camshaft oil seal even with camshaft bearing cap. To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure.
