Removal & Installation (Carrier Assembly & Shafts)

  1. Following components will remain intact during carrier removal: gear cover, gears, balance shafts and rear cover.
  2. Remove chain cover. Remove balance shaft sprocket bolt. Loosen tensioner pivot and adjusting bolts. Move chain-driven balance shaft inboard through chain sprocket. Sprocket should remain hanging in lower chain loop. Remove carrier-to-crankcase attaching bolts and remove carrier assembly.
  3. To install balance shafts and carrier assembly, reverse removal procedure. Use ALIGNING BALANCE SHAFTS procedure to ensure correct timing of balance shafts, chain and crankshaft.
