Chain Tensioning

  1. Loosely install chain tensioner. Install guide on double-ended gear cover stud. Ensure guide tab on engages with gear cover slot.
  2. Install guide retaining nut and tighten to specification. Install a .039" (.99 mm) thick by 2.75" (69.8 mm) long shim or Spacer (C-4916) between tensioner and chain. Push tensioner and shim against chain. Apply firm pressure directly behind tensioner adjustment slot to take up all the slack. See Fig 1.
  3. With pressure applied on tensioner, tighten tensioner bolt first and then the pivot bolt to specification. See Fig 1. Remove shim or spacer. Install gear cover.
