Dry Lash

  1. Dry lash is amount of clearance between camshaft base circle and rocker arm pad. Valve lash adjuster must be completely collapsed and free of oil when checking clearance.
  2. Remove retainer cap from valve lash adjuster. Disassemble and drain oil. Install adjuster when completely collapsed. Using feeler gauge, measure clearance between camshaft base circle and rocker arm pad.
  3. Clearance should be .024-.060" (.62-1.52 mm). If not within specification, check for wear on related parts and replace as required. Fill adjusters with engine oil. Reassemble using NEW retainer cap. Allow 10 minutes for adjuster to bleed down before rotating camshaft.
NOTE: For reassembly reference, label all electrical connectors, vacuum hoses and fuel lines before removal. Also place mating marks on engine hood and other major assemblies before removal.
