- Remove instrument cluster. Check for battery voltage at cavity No. 8 of right instrument cluster connector. See Fig 1 . With ignition on, check for battery voltage at cavity No. 9 of right instrument cluster connector. See Fig 1 .
- Check cavity No. 14 of right instrument cluster connector for continuity to ground. Check for tachometer signal by connecting an AC digital voltmeter to cavity No. 6 of left instrument cluster connector and ground. See Fig 1 .
- Voltage reading should be at least 2 volts with engine running. If voltage is correct, proceed to step 5). If voltage is less than 2 volts, check for continuity between cavity No. 6 of left instrument cluster connector and pin No. 43 of engine controller connector. See Figure

. Ensure engine controller and connector do not have damaged pins or poor connection.NOTE: Engine controller is located in engine compartment near the battery and contains a 60-pin connector.
- If voltage was less than one volt at cavity No. 6 of instrument cluster connector and continuity exists between cavity No. 6 and pin No. 43 of engine controller, replace engine controller.
- If all tests were okay, replace tachometer drive module attached to printed circuit board on rear of instrument cluster. If tachometer remains inoperable, replace tachometer assembly.
