Rocker Arm Assembly & Camshaft: Installation

To install, reverse removal procedure. Rocker shafts are marked ("1-3") for odd cylinders, and "2-4" for even cylinders. Ensure short springs for exhaust valves are used with right side rocker shaft assembly. Tighten rocker assembly bolts uniformly, in 3 steps, to specification.



  1. If camshaft oil seal was removed, lubricate front O.D. of camshaft. Using Seal Installer (MD998306-01 and MD998307-01), install and camshaft bearing journals and install camshaft into cylinder head.
  2. Check camshaft end play. End play should not exceed .016" (.4 mm). Install rocker arm assembly to cylinder head. Remove Rocker Arm Sleeves (MD998443-01), being careful not to let auto-lash adjusters fall out. Tighten rocker shaft mounting bolts uniformly to 15-19 ft. lbs. (20-27 N.m). Reverse removal procedure to complete installation.
