Removal (Colt Wagon 1.8L)

  1. Disconnect fuel pump connector located near fuel tank. Start engine and allow to idle until it stalls. Turn ignition off.
  2. Reconnect fuel pump connector. Remove hood, air cleaner, battery and battery tray. Drain cooling system, engine oil, transaxle oil and clutch fluid. Remove radiator and heater hoses.
  3. Remove fuel lines, vacuum hoses and electrical connections from engine. Disconnect electrical connectors and speedometer cable at transaxle. Disconnect accelerator cable. Disconnect clutch line at slave cylinder and control cables at transaxle.
  4. Disconnect A/C compressor and power steering pump from engine and secure with wire. Raise and support vehicle. Remove undercover and disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
  5. Remove drive axles. See appropriate DRIVE AXLES article in this section. Lower vehicle and install engine hoist. Raise engine slightly. Mark lower surface of support rod (roll rod) for reassembly reference and remove rod assembly. See Figure.
  6. Remove front and rear roll stopper insulator (engine mount) bolts. Remove transaxle mounting bracket bolts. Remove insulator bolt from front engine mount. Remove engine/transaxle assembly from vehicle while pushing transaxle side downward during removal.
CAUTION: Drive axle shaft retainer rings should be replaced whenever drive axle shafts are removed from transaxle.
