Removal (Colt Vista 2.0L)

Disconnect fuel pump connector at side of fuel tank. Start engine and allow to idle until it stalls. Turn ignition off. Reconnect fuel pump connector. Remove hood and air cleaner assembly. Remove battery and battery tray.
Drain cooling system, engine and transaxle oil. Drain transfer case (4WD). Remove radiator with hoses. Remove fuel lines and vapor hoses from engine. Disconnect heater hoses at firewall. Disconnect all vacuum hoses to engine. Disconnect throttle cable.
On models equipped with cruise control, disconnect speed control cable. On all models, disconnect electrical connectors from fuel injectors, idle speed control servo motor, oxygen sensor, power transistor, condenser and EGR temperature sensor (Calif. only).
Disconnect electrical connectors from A/C compressor, alternator, power steering pressure switch and oil pressure switch. Disconnect electrical connectors from ignition coil, distributor, motor position sensor, and Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). See Figure.
Remove drive belts and exhaust manifold heat shield. Remove power steering oil pump and reservoir. Remove A/C compressor. If necessary, discharge A/C system. Disconnect control cables and feed hoses from transaxle (auto. trans.). Remove clutch slave unit from transaxle (man. trans.).
On 4WD models, remove stabilizer bar and strut bar from lower control arm. Disconnect tie rod end from steering knuckle. Remove drive shaft. Remove panel from upper front side of engine compartment. On all models, remove drive axles.
Remove speedometer cable and remaining hose or wiring connectors. See appropriate DRIVE AXLES article in this section. Disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold. Disconnect front and rear lower engine mounts. Support engine with hoist.
Remove upper engine mount bracket assembly. Raise engine slightly. Ensure all cables, hoses and electrical harnesses are disconnected from engine. Remove engine and transaxle assembly upward from vehicle to remove from engine compartment.
