Valve Clearance Adjustment: 1.5L

  1. Ensure cylinder head bolts are properly tightened prior to adjusting valve clearance. Ensure intake valve adjusting screw is backed off at least 2 turns prior to adjusting jet valve.
  2. With engine at normal operating temperature, remove spark plugs and rocker cover. Rotate engine clockwise and align timing mark on crankshaft pulley with that on timing belt cover. Ensure No. 1 piston is at TDC and valves are free.
    CAUTION: Jet valve spring is comparatively weak and must not be forced in when making adjustment.
  3. Adjust intake valves on cylinders No. 1 and 2 and exhaust valves on cylinders No. 1 and 3 to specification. See VALVE CLEARANCE SPECIFICATIONS  table.
  4. Rotate crankshaft clockwise 360 degrees to position No. 4 cylinder at TDC of compression stroke. Adjust intake valves on cylinders No. 3 and 4 and exhaust valves on cylinders No. 2 and 4. Install rocker cover.
