Brake System Warning Light
- Turn ignition on. DO NOT start engine. Release parking brake. Warning light should go out. If light stays on, check brake system for leaks, grounded wires, shorted parking brake warning switch, or faulty brake system proportioning valve.
- Apply parking brake. Warning light should go on. If light does not come on, check for burned out bulb, disconnected or faulty bulb socket, broken or disconnected wire at parking brake switch or faulty parking brake switch.
- Apply service brakes. Warning light should NOT come on. If light comes on, check brake system for leaks, grounded wires, shorted brake warning switch, or faulty brake system proportioning valve.
- To test service brake warning system, raise car on hoist. Open a wheel cylinder bleed screw while an assistant depresses brake pedal and observes warning light.
- If light does not go on, check for a burned out bulb, disconnected socket, loose bulkhead connector, or broken or disconnected wire at switch. If bulb and wiring are okay, check (and replace as necessary) brake warning switch and/or proportioning valve.
NOTE:
Check brake master cylinder fluid level and bleed brake system if necessary.
