Removal (Colt Vista)

  1. Disconnect battery cables. Remove hood and air cleaner. Drain radiator, transaxle, power steering and A/C system. Remove battery, battery tray and battery tray mounting bracket. Disconnect cooling fan motor and engine harness connector.
  2. Remove radiator overflow and windshield washer reservoirs. Disconnect transaxle cooling lines, if equipped. Disconnect upper and lower radiator hoses. Disconnect heater hoses, ground cable and brake booster hose. Disconnect clutch cable (manual transaxle) or shift control cable (automatic transaxle).
  3. Disconnect speedometer and accelerator cables. Remove A/C hoses from compressor. Plug openings to prevent contamination. Disconnect power steering hoses. Disconnect all engine and transaxle electrical connections. Remove vacuum control unit and solenoid valve. Disconnect hoses from purge control valve. Remove fuel lines.
  4. Raise vehicle and disconnect exhaust pipe from manifold. Use wire to support exhaust pipe from bottom of vehicle. Remove shift rod extension and range selector cable (manual transaxle). Disconnect left and right strut bars and stabilizer bars from lower arms.
  5. Remove left and right lower control arm-to-crossmember mountng bolts. Remove drive shafts and cover holes in transaxle to prevent contaminaion. Support lower control arms and drive shafts from crossmember.
    NOTE: Replace drive shaft retainer ring each time drive shaft is removed.
  6. Attach sling to engine and raise until tight. Remove left insulator mounting nut. DO NOT remove mounting bolt. Remove front roll insulator nut and heat protector bolt. Remove rear roll insulator mounting nut. Remove left insulator-to-fender mounting nuts.
  7. Remove power steering pump, if equipped. Remove cap from inside of right fender shield. Remove transaxle insulator bracket mounting bolts and bracket. Lift engine-transaxle assembly only far enough to remove weight from mounts.
  8. Remove insulator bolts from rear roll stopper, front roll bracket and left mounting bracket. Remove engine-transaxle assembly from vehicle.
