Main & Connecting Rod Bearings: Notes
- Inspect each bearing for peeling, melting, seizure or improper contact. Replace defective bearings. Measure outside diameter of crankshaft and connecting rod journals to determine if out-of-round or tapered.
- Use Plastigage method to check bearing clearance. If clearance exceeds limits, bearing should be replaced or undersize bearing installed. Undersize bearings are available in .25 mm, .50 mm, and .75 mm undersizes.
NOTE:
Do not turn crankshaft with Plastigage installed.
