Removal (1.4L)

  1. Drain cooling system and disconnect upper radiator hose. Remove breather hose and air cleaner. Disconnect vacuum hose at distributor, fuel hose and water hose.
  2. Disconnect accelerator linkage and spark plug wires. Remove distributor, carburetor and intake manifold. Remove heat cowl, exhaust manifold assembly and timing belt cover.
  3. Move timing belt tensioner toward water pump and secure it. Remove timing belt from camshaft sprocket, ensuring belt is left on crankshaft sprocket. Remove rocker arm cover.
  4. Loosen cylinder head bolts, in steps, in reverse of tightening sequence. See Figure. Remove bolts and cylinder head making certain gasket pieces do not fall into engine.
